Full description
Mills, A., 1996, Pill Farm or Portmore? (Personal Comment). SDV79502.
An early Bronze Age flat axe was found near Lake by a detectorist.
North Devon Museum, 1997, Bronze Age flat axe (Photograph). SDV79503.
Photos show axe to be roughly 12cm long, 5.5cm wide at the blade and 2cm wide at the butt. It is a maximum of 1cm thick.
Horner. W., 1997, Earthworks, Axe, Pottery, Coin Hoard (Site Visit). SDV87028.
Site visit 13th May 1997. Shown the site of the find by the original finders. The axe was found about 30cm below the turf on the side of an earthwork feature. The earthwork is thought to be a drainage feature. Finds of copper slag have been made in this and adjoining fields.
