Name:VERMIN TRAP in the Parish of Shaugh Prior


Vis=4/4/1995 (gerrard) animal run survives as a y-shaped gully and is situated within a partially enclosed hut settlement. The animal run survives as a y-shaped gully with the third arm extending nne from the point of the v. The n arm measures 40m long, 0.9m wide and 0.2m deep. Material upcast during its construction forms a 1.3m wide and 0.15m high bank on the downslope side. The nw arm measures 30m long, 0.8m wide by 0.2m deep and the associated upcast bank is 1m wide and up to 0.2m high. The south western arm measures 20m long, 0.7m wide by up to 0.3m deep and the associated bank lies on the n side and is 1.2m wide and 0.3m high.

Full description


This gully probably represents part of a complex system of animal runs in which rabbits and vermin could have been trapped. The national trust upper plym inventory records the sw arm as extending for a total of 95m. The upper length is however a natural gully (mpp).
