In 1825 Ford Stream was contained to drain the millpond area, to allow New Road to be built. It was renamed Victoria Road in 1897.

New Road, now Victoria Road, in Dartmouth was built along the south side of the former mill pool once it was reclaimed after 1815. It was completed in 1827.
