Full description

St. George. In March 1971, while digging a grave on the N side of the church, a skeleton was found lying N and S. No signs of foundations but on digging another grave nearer the N wall of the church a soakway was found. In an account of the restoration of the church in the North Devon Journal for 2 Nov.1876 it was stated that a north aisle may have been removed for traces of tiled paving had been found in the locality and the north wall is less substantial than the others.

Grave aligned north-south found during excavation of new grave in 1971. Possible evidence of a former north aisle reported in 1876; soakaway found near north wall of church 1971 possibly related.
