HER Number:MDV57201
Name:Lynchet or Field Boundary East of Cheney’s Farm, Honiton

Summary

A probable former field boundary was visible on aerial photographs and digital images derived from lidar data as a prominent earthwork bank and ditch, on the gentle north-facing slopes east of Cheney’s Farm. The pronounced drop north of the boundary has resulted in it previously being recorded as a lynchet.

A prominent curved earthwork bank up to 10 metres wide, with evidence of a ditch on its north-eastern side, was visible on aerial photographs and digital images derived from lidar data on the gentle north-facing slopes east of Cheney’s Farm. The pronounced drop north of the boundary has resulted in it previously being recorded as a lynchet, but a monument type of field boundary is probably more accurate. The boundary is not depicted on the Tithe Map for Honiton and probably therefore passed out of use prior to the 1840s.
