Vis=11/3/1997 (horner) chert quarry. Much of the natural scarp in this area has been quarried back, leaving a broad indentation. The ground sloping down to the umborne brook is covered with grassed-over spoil (horner).

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

The possible quarry corresponds with an area depicted as rough ground.

Bluesky International, 2016, LiDAR DTM data (0.5m resolution) Blackdown Hills and East Devon AONBs: 3 transects, LIDAR ST2101 Bluesky International DTM 24 & 30-APR-2016 (Cartographic). SDV359714.

An area of cutting into the hill slope was visible as earthworks.

Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.

A possible former extractive site or quarry was visible on digital images derived from lidar data as a pit or working face almost 80 metres long and 15 metres wide cut into the south-east facing slopes below Summerhayes Farm, Cotleigh parish.
The earthwork did not correspond with any pit or quarry depicted on the Tithe Map for Stockland or the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map but did roughly match an area of rough ground that might indicate the workings had probably passed out of use prior to the 1880s.
