Summary

Night flying equipment store. Construction: rendered 4.5 inch walls with piers at ten feet centres supporting steel trusses carrying corrugated asbestos sheeting. Built in three bays each having large double timber doors opening out onto concrete hurters. Building 30 feet long by 18 feet wide, walls 10ft-6ins high (plate 24). Function: for the garaging of portable airfield lighting equipment including, goose flare trolley, glim lamp trolley and illuminated landing tee (for use at night). Note: the fire tender shelter normally built on raf class 'a' aerodromes was not built here and instead the fire tender was parked on a concrete hardstanding next to the control tower (francis).
