Name:SQUASH COURT in the Parish of Upottery

Summary

Upottery dispersed site 3 (mess) squash racqets court. Construction: rendered 4.5 inch brick with piers at ten feet centres supporting steel trusses carrying corrugated asbestos sheeting. Walls internally cement rendered and court playing lines painted onto the floor and wall surfaces. Building 38ft-9ins long and 21 feet wide. Function: this was part of the station recreation facilities which also included the gymnasium, but this is now demolished. Designed with a single-storey annexe on front elevation used as an undressing and waiting room, the main part of the building was the playing area. Traces of red painted play lines can still be seen inside the court area. Still in good condition but disused (plate 28) (francis).
