Full description

Royal Commission for the Historical Monuments of England, 1987-1993, Duchy Farms Project Survey Visit (Report - Survey). SDV350839.

Visited on 15th May 1989. Remains of a small cairn with cist on a moderate western slope in open grassland overlooking the West Dart in Crockern Newtake. It has been robbed heavily, leaving only one cist slab and fragments of the cairn material. The slab is rectangular in side view and in section, firmly embedded on edge, measuring 1.2 metres long 0.48 metres high and 0.15 metres thick. It is aligned north-west to south-east. Cairn material in the form of a partly turf covered mound of small stones, 0.3 metres high, remains against the north-east face of the cist slab and in a slight arc to the east and south-east: this seems to be the east side of the cairn with the cist slab in the north-east quadrant. The remaining part of the cairn, to the west are almost completely robbed out, leaving only a slight scarp to complete what probably was an oval cairn measuring circa 6 metres north to south and 4.2 metreseast to west. A search of the area around revealed no evidence of displaced cist slabs or cairn material.
