Full description

NMR, SS21NW36 (National Monuments Record Database). SDV337136.

Cambalu. British merchant steamer wrecked Welcombe Mouth, 1933. Steel vessel, built 1920 by Day, Summers & Co, Southampton. Screw driven, 3 cylinder triple expansion. Machinery: aft, by W. Beardmore & Co, Glasgow. Q. Deck 95 feet, bridge 11 feet, forecastle 23 feet. Single boiler, 61 hp engine. Owner: Pickavance Shipping Co; Master: Crowther. Crew 9. Registered Liverpool. Plymouth to Mumbles in ballast. Ran ashore at 1am in dense fog 6 miles south of Hartland Point. Her crew took to their boat and were picked up by the Padstow lifeboat Princess Mary about 7am. and landed at Padstow. She stranded on rocks close to the high water mark and badly damaged her bottom, and was abandoned following a spell of bad weather which followed.
