Summary

Site of the wreck of the Iris off Hartland Point. The Iris, a British cargo schooner, was enroute from Cardiff to Devoran in 1859 with a cargo of coal, when a fire started in the cabin. The fire quickly spread to the whole vessel, which was abandoned and it sank within 20 minutes.

British cargo schooner Iris, burnt off Hartland Point in 1859. Registered in Penzance. On passage from Cardiff to Devoran in coal. Fire started in the cabin and spread to the whole vessel, abandoned and sank in 20 minutes
