Two roughly oval pits are visible on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017 as earthworks approximately 16m across, within a copse on the north-west facing slopes of a combe to the south-east of Penn Farm, Ashton. The copse is depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25inch map, and the pits therefore pre-date the mid-19th century. It is probable that the pits are quarries or extractive of probable post-medieval date
