Motorised sailing ketch ceres, the oldest vessel registered at lloyds. She had been built at salcombe in 1811, 4 years before the battle of waterloo, and had served as a munitions carrier throughout the napoleonic wars. On 25/11/1936, on passage from swansea to her home port of bude, where she was owned by messrs petherick & sons, with a cargo of slag and crew of 2, she sprang a leak off baggy point and sank 500 yds from the point, leaving her topmasts showing until going to pieces soon afterwards (larn, 1974).
