Full description

LARN, 1974, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV8891.

Ketch strathisla of barnstaple. Left kinsale for newport in ballast 23/9/1884. While attempting to enter the taw in fog without a pilot, she struck on the north ridge. The impact brought down the main gaff, which smashed the steering wheel, and this damage, additional to a bad lead and a choked bilge pump, were sufficient excuse for the crew to abandon ship. She drifted away on the rising tide in a derelict condition, striking first the rocks e of the lighthouse, then millstone point, where several locals boarded her and claimed salvage (larn, 1974).
