Full description

Matthews, A. J., 1984, Watching brief (Worksheet). SDV247770.

A watching brief during sewer trenching in the restaurant area revealed a culvert running parallel to the building (south-west to north-east). It was not possible to see inside as the capping slate was larger than the trench.
Within the trench on the outside was another drain/culvert running north-west to south-east. The capping stones formed the base of the trench for approx 1.2 metres until the drain dropped in height. It was cut at the south-east end 1.33 metres away from the wall by a modern concrete drain. The trench cut through a modern concrete revetment wall, and on the lower (north-west) side there was a patch of cobbles.
