Full description

Department of Environment, 1988, Rose Ash, 85 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV344395.

Stable block adjoining South Yarde farmhouse at the west. Probably an early C19remodelling of an earlier building. Stone rubble with a course of cob below the eaves; corrugated iron roof, gabled at ends (formerly thatched).
Plan: adjoining the lower (west) end of South Yarde to which it is linked by a covered way that gives access to the farmyard. Rectangular on plan. Internal carpentry suggests a pre C19 date (chamfered crossbeams).
Exterior: single storey with a loft. Asymmetrical south front with a C19 plank door to left of centre flanked by windows with an additional window to right, the windows with segmental cut stone arches. Loft door above plank door, small loft window high under eaves to right.
Interior: chamfered crossbeams support the loft floor. The stall partitions are intact. Part of an unusually well-preserved group of farm buildings, and extremely important to the setting of the house. The owner possesses a photo of the stable thatched.

Keystone Historic Buildings Consultants, 1993, South Yarde Farm, Rose Ash, Devon, 5 (Report - Survey). SDV344396.

Stable block separated from the west end of the house by a roofed passage. Faces south into the yard. Not shown on the 1844 Tithe Map. Probably mid 19th century.

Ordnance Survey, 2013, MasterMap (Cartographic). SDV350786.
