Summary

Vis=-/11/1997 (dyer) galford farmhouse. C17 origins with c18 remodelling and c19 alterations. Rendered; slate roof. Listed grade ii. Now split into main farmhouse and two adjoining barn conversions: 'the saddlery' and 'the barn'. 'galford(e)' first recorded in 1544; first element of name may be 'gafol' meaning 'tax duty'; perhaps referring to a ford where toll had to be paid (pnd p187-8) (worksheet).
