Summary
Artefacts consisting of pottery sherds, tap slag and furnace fragments dating from the Prehistoric period through to the Post-Medieval period have been recovered from the area of Cleave Hill. Finds have come from vegetable patches, excavation trenches, ruinous buildings and from points where fence posts have been erected.

Finds of post-medieval ceramics from area within enclosure site at cleave hill. Finds have come from vegetable patch and from points where fence posts have been erected. Above ngr is for veg plot. Finds largely domestic earthenwares but also thick perforated tiles (horner).

Finds include clay pipes of c.1620-1650's. One stamped 'jl' (allan).

As part of an ongoing investigation at Cleave Hill four small trenches were excavated in 1999. A mixed horizon extending in the area to the south of the farm buildings. Romano-British, Medieval and Post-Medieval Pottery as well as tap slag and furnace fragments was recovered from the trenches. It is also known that the owners of the farmstead have recovered a number of Post-medieval pottery sherds from a now demolished range of buildings to the west of the main farmhouse.
