Numerous phases of clay working activity are depicted on 19th and early 20th century maps and visible on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards. Small scale clay pits depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25inch map had expanded by the 1930s, ad shown on the Fourth Edition map. The quarry earthworks expanded further on aerial photographs of the 1940s, but the original quarry earthworks were destroyed by accelerated expansion rapidly in the post-war years.
The extensive pits, spoil mounds and landscaping of the later 20th century are clearly visible on images derived from aerial photographs of 2015 and lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017. The modern features were not transcribed by the survey.
