A possible ditched enclosure of later prehistoric to Roman date is visible on aerial photographs as a cropmark near the bottom of a west facing slope south-east of Up Exe, overlooking the Exe Valley.
The visible linear cropmark is between 1.5 to 2.5 metres wide defining a rectangular area circa 20 by 30 metres in size. A possible circular annexe or enclosure circa 7 metres in diameter is visible to the south-western corner of the cropmark enclosure.
An apparent break in the western edge of the enclosure and the poor visibility of the south-eastern corner of the enclosure is probably an effect of a band of deeper or wetter soils, itself visible as a dark cropmark crossing the centre of the enclosure, obscuring or suppressing the formation of archaeological cropmarks.
The ditches probably survive as buried features.
