Full description

Turner, J. R., 1976, Ancient Monuments on Forestry Commission Land. Fernworthy and Bellever (Report - non-specific). SDV351823.

Bellever Plantation. Bellever Tor Settlement. Site 9C. Not included in 1955 Spooner/Dixon report. New discovery.
Hut circle. 3.4 metres diameter, thickness of wall 1.1 metres, covered by peat. Not investigated. Has been planted over.

Site visit 8th July 1997. Stone hut circle forming part of a prehistoric stone hut circle settlement north of Bellever Tor. Diameter 4.4 metres, single orthostat wall 0.3 metres high. A ring of stones protruding through very boggy peat. In a clearing with large number of old tree stumps.

Hut circle 7. Diameter 5.2 metres; walls 0.8 metres wide, 0.2 metres high. Possible entrance to the south-east. Heavily turf and moss covered. Some good inner and outer facing stones. Contained within enclosure F.

Bellever Site 9C. Site visit 10th March 1992. Hut circle in a clearing. Present ground cover comprises moss, peat and brash. Stability very good, although the site is boggy. Some evidence of animal traffic. The site is marked. Recommended that current management regime to control vegetation be maintained. Photos.

Bellever 9C. Site visit 24th September 1996. Regeneration is taking place within the clearance area. One of the two posts marking the site has been knocked over in the path of a newly created track which cuts into the clearance area. More posts are needed to mark the site. Photo.
