Full description

Gerrard, S., 1990-2002, Monument Protection Programme. Archaeological Item Dataset., MPP 148932, 10/4/1997 (Report - Survey). SDV277946.

At SX 6574 9056. Stone hut circle forming part of a prehistoric settlement within a coaxial field system on Throwleigh Common. Diameter 5.6 metres. Double orthostat wall 1.4 metres wide, 0.8 metres high. Internal area measures 24.16 metres.

Northern of three hut circles at Site '12' amid a patch of surface stone. This is one of the smaller two huts of 5.7 and 6.3 metres respectively, separated from the larger hut by a cross wall. The hut is located in a rectilinear enclosure cut by the 'leat' on th east side at 'Throwleigh Common settlement'

A 6.2 metre stony ring of 2 metres wide. The hut has a level interior and some orthostats but most of the stone is displaced.

Site visited 4/07/2017. Plotted using GPS (SX65767 90584). Area was densely vegetated and highly overgrown with bracken. Difficult to gain access to centre of circle.
