Summary

Hut Circle '13' of 7.5 metres diameter with walls 2.5 metres wide by 1 metre high within the large settlement on Throwleigh Common. Sited just west of a post-medieval leat which avoids the hut. The two door jambs remain upright on either side of the entrance and consist of 1 metre high granite posts.

At SX 6577 9055. Stone hut circle forming part of a prehistoric settlement within a coaxial field system on Throwleigh Common. Diameter 7.5 metres. Wall 2.5 metres wide, 1.0 metre high. Internal area measures 44.15 metres. Door faces 168 degrees, is 0.9 metres wide and defined on east by large horizontally laid slabs to which a large orthostat has been added.

Eastern of three huts at Site '12' of 7.0 metres diameter separated from the other two smaller huts by a cross wall. It is well preserved with its door jambs in place. It is located on the west side of the 'leat' at 'Throwleigh Commom Settlement'.

Hut 13 SX 6579 9057
Sited just west of a post-medieval leat which avoids the hut. A substantial hut which has a high proportion of both its inner and outer stone faces of the walls in situ. It is constructed from large slabs of granite set on edge to form a wall which still stands to up to 0.8 metres high by 1.4 metres thick. The internal diameter of the hut is 7.3 metres and the floor is level. The two door jambs remain upright on either side of the entrance and consist of 1 metre high granite posts. The entrance is also lined with granite slabs across the thickness of the walls. A tree is growing from the within the walls on the east side.

Site visited 4/07/2017. Plotted using GPS (SX65793 90575). Area was densely vegetated and highly overgrown with bracken. Difficult to gain access to centre of circle. Followed tracks of old leat to gain access to hut. Some rocks in the circle were loose and unstable.
