Full description

Butler, J., 1991, Dartmoor Atlas of Antiquities: Volume One - The East, 123 (Monograph). SDV299725.

Pillow mounds for rabbits were constructed around the head of the Rowbrook and along the east and south flanks of Vag Hill in the 17th century.

Greeves, T. A. P., 1998, Untitled Source (Worksheet). SDV346018.

Site visited on 12th July 1998. One of two well-preserved and bracken-covered pillow mounds in woodland close to left bank of the River Dart, (approximately 100 metres downstream of Luckey Tor), and with long axes more or less parallel to the river. Approximately 18 metres by 6 metres and 1 metre high, with a rounded top. Presumably linked to Vag Hill warren.

Gerrard, S., 2004, List of Sites Remaining to be Considered for Designation on Dartmoor (Un-published). SDV345444.

Pillow mounds and vermin traps south of Rowbrook Farm were considered for designation as Scheduled Ancient Monuments in 2004. Other details: Site 47.

Marchand, J., 2005, Archaeology within Mel Tor Wood, 11 (Report - Survey). SDV364979.

A pillow mound measuring 18m by 6m by 1.5m positioned parallel to the Dart on the river terrace was recorded during field survey in 2005. The mound is covered by saplings and some mature trees. The pillow mound is part of the Vaghill Warren.
The pillow mound is important in a local context. The track should be kept free of saplings and scrub vegetation. The area should be excluded from areas of new planting.
