Name:BUILDING in the Parish of Dartmoor Forest

Summary

Near the left bank of the east dart in greyhound marsh, postbridge. Hut with flint strike-a-lights, lumps of corroded iron, potsherds, piece of oak all on the floor. Covered with a layer of vegetable fibres, probably the remains of the roof. Potsherds of a vessel, wheel made, fired red, undecorated. Summer hut of medieval tin streamers (baring-gould).

Des=lane, k. + horsham, r. /dtrg newsletter/15(july 1998)2-4/dtrg agm postbridge excursion 21/3/1998. Tinners building cut into a tin working scarp. Since the clearance of accumulated rubbish a possible diversion channel on the level ground below the building is now visible. The site was excavated in 1902 when it was suggested that the site 'probably once harboured some medieval tin-streamers' (lane + horsham).
