Archaeological recording by Exeter Archaeology identified a second drain some 7.5 metres east of the medieval drain. This drain was on the same, north-south alignment, straighter and better-built, of shale slabs with capping stones. During the course of the life of the drain it had been narrowed by the insertion of a wall which represents the tenement boundary between two plots. The demolition layer sealing the drag and fill yielded 16th and 17th century pottery sherds.
