Thornborough. This Plymouth based privateer wrecked on Exmouth Bar in 1806. It was in ballast at the time. The NRHE records that the Thornborough drifted to leeward on the rocks off the high land of Orcombe, some distance from the shore. Three crew members swam to shore, however Captain Crowte and two others were washed overboard and drowned. Nine men remained with the wreck, and eventually part of the wreck separated and drifted the men to shore.
