Full description

The land-use map (Appendix 4) shows the area as it was farmed in 1840. Pasture close to the house became, by degrees, more formal parkland.

Visited on 16/03/1998.Low break of slope, 130 metres long north-west to south-east, no more than 0.4 metres high. Probably remains of negative lynchet relating to the parkland enclosure of the area. Runs northward down slope to probably terminate against the revetted lane (site 12). Also associated with lynchets (sites 9 and 11). Other details: Appendix 5: site10.

The Tithe Map shows the lawn or park extended by the acquisition of a number of enclosures, and the removal of their hedges. Two small enclosures, one arable and one orchard, south of the lane to Zeal, are noted as "added to the Lawn".
