Summary

A Bronze Age round cairn visible as a turf and heather covered mound located 580 metres south of Horns Cross forming part of a cairn cemetery on Holne Ridge. The stoney matrix of the mound is visible through a trench cut across the cairn from north west to south east. At the southern end of this trench lies a large slab.

Site visited on 19th May 1999. A round cairn 600 metres south of Horn's Cross forming part of a cairn cemetery on Holne Ridge.

Holne Ridge N. cairn '11' at SX66706998 of 28 metres diameter by 1.0 metres high is a massive flat topped mound with traces of an outer bank buried under a thick covering of peat.

(25/04/1996) SX 66997045. A cairn slightly to the east of the crest of the ridge running south from Combestone Tor. The turf and heather covered mound measures 7.3 metres in diameter and 1.1 metres high. The stoney matrix of the mound is visible in disturbances in the centre and south west edge. There is no evidence of a kerb or cist associated with this feature.

The monument includes a round cairn forming an outlying part of a cairn cemetery or cairnfield situated on a gentle north facing slope of Holne Ridge overlooking the valley of River Dart. The cairn survives as a 7.6 metres diameter mound standing up to 1 metre high. A trench leading across the cairn from north-west to south-east represents the site of a partial undocumented investigation. At the south eastern end of this trench is a large slab which may have been part of a cist.
