Name:Hut circle '8' in settlement 430 metres north-west of Horn's Cross

Summary

Modified Hut Circle '8' (Butler) in scattered settlement on Holne Moor. Survey in 1996 recorded this feature: hut measures around 4.0 metres in diameter internally. Remains consist of a poorly preserved circle of stones. Butler and Gerrard suggest a cairn has been built partly over this hut.

(Visited 04/05/1999) SX 6660 7122 Hut circle forming part of a prehistoric settlement 430 metres north-west of Horn's Cross. Diameter 5.5 metres. Internal area 23.74 metres. Single orthostat wall 1.0 metre wide, 0.5 metres high. Partly underlies cairn.

Hut Circle '8' originally likely to been approximately 5.0 metres in diameter which appears to have been converted into an oval cairn measuring 6.0 by 4.0 metres. Additonal plan of this hut included.

(Visited 28/02/1996) Centred SX 6659 7127. Eight hut circles, one contemporary structure and a solitary enclosure lie on the moderate west-facing slope above the right bank of the O Brook.
SX 6661 7122 Measures c.4.0 metres in diameter internally. Poorly preserved circle of stones.
