Summary

Hut circle in reave system positioned on a fairly steep slope. Diameter 7.8 metres. Earthwork wall 1.8 metres wide, 0.8 metres high. This hut survives as a scoop cut into the side of a moderately steep slope. Grass, bracken and gorse. Condition stable in 2015.

Site visit 1st April 1999. Stone hut circle within coaxial fields on Halsanger Common. Diameter 7.8 metres. Earthwork wall 1.8 metres wide, 0.8 metres high. This hut survives as a scoop cut into the side of a moderately steep slope. Grass, bracken and gorse.

Butler's hut circle 14. Measures 5.3 metres in diameter and is a more isolated location, further uphill than the main huts in the system.

Hut circle in reave system on Halshanger Common
A stone hut circle located within a neighbourhood group of 16 dispersed huts on Halsanger Common, and the western corner of Rippon Tor enclosure, spread over about 7 hectares amidst the parallel reaves. Some are attached to reaves, though others are free standing. Condition is stable. SX74280 74720

(17/06/2019) Condition assessed as bad. Substantial gorse growth over an estimated 70% of the earthwork walls and some inside the hut circle. Bracken shoots throughout and heavy gorse in surrounding area up to earthwork walls.
