Summary

Large stone hut circle with possible porch within coaxial fields on Halsanger Common. Interior is disturbed by burrowing animal activity. Diameter 8.4 metres. Single orthostat wall 1.2 metres wide, 1.2 metres high. 170 degree gap probably represents a doorway. Single orthostatic construction with the ring of slabs denoting the interior of the building.

Site visit 1st April 1999. Stone hut circle within coaxial fields on Halsanger Common. Diameter 8.4 metres. Single orthostat wall 1.2 metres wide, 1.2 metres high. 170 degree gap probably represents a doorway. Single orthostatic construction with the ring of slabs denoting the interior of the building. Evidence of recent animal burrowing within the building. Grass and bracken.

Butler's hut circle 13. Measuring 9.0 metres in diameter, this is the largest of the settlement, well-preserved and built of large stones. A slab stands outside the entrance with another flat alongside, possibly the remains of a porch. Numeroud burrows have made the interior uneven.

Hut circle on Halshanger Common. A stone hut circle located within a neighbourhood group of 16 dispersed huts on Halsanger Common, and the western corner of Rippon Tor enclosure, spread over about 7ha amidst the parallel reaves. Some are attached to reaves, though others are free standing.
Condition is stable. SX74468 74696

(09/06/2019) Condition assessed as poor. Extensive damaged from burrowing animals in centre (photo 3) and surrounding hut, and likely extensive underground damage, but stones are still solid. Both huts (see also MDV62312) have widespread young bracken shoots, and are covered in short grass.
