Full description

Butler, J., 1991, Dartmoor Atlas of Antiquities: Volume One - The East, 47-48; figure 6.1, Map 6 (Monograph). SDV299725.

Butler’s hut circle 9 measures 8.2 metres in diameter and is one of the largest in the settlement. It is approached by a long curved passageway from the south-west across the ends of two fields. The width narrows from 5.0 metres to 3.5 metres near the hut, which it does not quite meet, though this may be due to later removal of the missing stones.
The hut entrance is not, however, into the passageway but downhill, where one of the jamb stones lies prone. The far end is securely blocked by a reave, whilst the lowest course of another continues across the passageway about half-way along without a break. Tumbled stones at its base show that it once stood higher and did not need to be removed in order to gain access to the hut.
