Reservoir dam.1893-8 by james manserch and edward sandeman, engineers.1923-8 raised by 10ft. Concrete construction faced in rusticated rock faced granite. The outer (air) wall has extreme batter at its base. Above, at the centre a 5-bay arcaded weir spillway with battered bases to its piers and imposts to segmental arches. Rusticated stringcourses and coping to the parapets, the coping raised over the weir spillway. Carriageway over the top of the dam with similar parapet on the reservoir side. Abutments have curved splays (dcms).
