Dark rectilinear cropmarks, first recorded as possible enclosures from specialist oblique photographs taken in 1990, are also visible on aerial photographs taken in 1979 and 1988. On these earlier images they are more irregular in form, and of varying width. They are similar in appearance, and often also in orientation, to cropmarks of probable geological origin in the wider vicinity. It therefore seems more likely that the rectilinear cropmarks formed over natural features rather than archaeological ones.
