Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.

An irregularly shaped pit circa 40 and 20 metres across was visible as an earthwork within Wood Close Copse, Yarcombe Parish. A curvilinear hollow, probably a trackway approaches the pit from the west.
The visible earthworks fall within the area of the woodland as depicted on the OS First Edition 25 inch map. This supports the interpretation that the visible earthworks are the remains of an extractive pit that had passed out of use prior to the mid-to-late 19th century and was subsequently reused for woodland. The earthworks remained obscured from view by dense woodland on aerial photographs in 2014.
