'St. Martin's Chapel (Site of)' marked on 1880s-1890s 25 inch Ordnance Survey map, in north east corner of field at Meddon. Also marked on 1907 and 1964 6 inch maps.

Bishop Stafford licensed celebration in the chapel of St. Martin, Meddon in 1400 along with other chapels in Hartland parish.

2. Site of an ancient chapel 5 chains northwest of Methodist Chapel.
3. St Martin's, one of eleven ancient chapels in Hartland parish.
4. St. Martin's of Meddon was one of five chapels in Hartland licensed by Bishop Stafford in 1400. Lyson's mentions eleven chapels but one was private and two are doubtful.
5. Site visit 16th October 1977. The site of St. Martin's Chapel is occupied by a modern farm building in a grass field. There are no visible remains of a chapel in the vicinity and not further information was obtained locally.

A Royal Charter of 1189 granted to Hartland Abbey chapels at Harton (Hartland), Cheristow, Welcombe and all the other chapels built in the parish. As Meddon is listed in 1400, it is suggested that it is one of the other chapels granted in 1189.
