Summary

The present 32 feet diameter wheel was salvaged from the china clay workings on Headon Down in 1973 and re-erected in the existing wheelpit. The original wheel powered a manganese grinding works.

No information survives about the original wheel, but from the dimensions of the wheelpit and the position of the stone walls supporting the launder, a close estimate of the size was possible. An abandoned 32 foot wheel was salvaged from the china-clay workings at Headon Down in 1973, and installed in the existing wheelpit.
