Name: | Relict Field System west of All Saints Rectory |
---|
Summary
Several curvilinear banks and a ditch, visible as earthworks on lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014 and less clearly as dark curvilinear cropmarks on earlier aerial photographs. They are interpreted as part of a previously recorded relict medieval field system, and probably went out of use by the late-19th century.

Several curvilinear earthworks banks and a ditch, between 2.5 and 4.5 metres wide, are visible on lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014. Some of them are indistinctly visible as dark curvilinear cropmarks on earlier aerial photographs. The earthworks are likely to be the same as those recorded by Carter at ST30800110 (SDV47986), and are interpreted as relict remains of a medieval field system. None of the transcribed earthworks are depicted on the available historic mapping, and they are likely to have gone out of use by the late-19th century.
