Summary

At least three roughly circular earthwork features on the east side of the valley are interpreted as 20th century redoubts dug during military training. They consist of flat-bottomed hollows with embanked side and internal divisions and have previously been described as hut circles and medieval remains.

SX 537749 On Whitchurch Common, just above Merrivale Quarry leat and below the highway are two hut-circles. Nearby is a deserted Medieval site (MDV3594).

Haynes, R. G., 1966-1969, Ruined Sites on Dartmoor, 149, 1966 (Un-published). SDV150434.

Haynes describes four of these features as possible dwellings of unknown date (potentially modern).
