Summary
Former Garden of Gras Lawn, laid out by James Veitch in the mid 19th century. The area to the south survives, but that to the east and south-east was partly destroyed by the construction of the childrens' hospital in the early 20th century.

Full description
Exeter Archaeology, 1998, An Archaeological Assessment of the Former Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Hospital Site, Barrack Road Exeter, 6-7 (Report - Assessment). SDV342039.
Immediately south of Gras Lawn are the grounds laid out by Veitch, which originally included specimens of rare and ornamental trees and shrubs, walks and fish ponds. It is understood that the yew walk was restored in the 1950s, and remains intact. The remains of a bank within the garden may represent the remains of an older field boundary beneath which archaeological deposits may survive. Other details: Figures 3-5.
