The Exeter Inn occurs in the earliest Tiverton directory to name inns (Pigot's 1823-4). It is possible the inn was previously called the Hoop and Bell, which was leased with a rackfield in 1809. Exeter Inn survived until at least the early 1970s, when the site was required for road widening.
