Name:Hut circle 780m south-east of Yar Tor

Summary

Hut circle south-east of Yar Tor; one of seven hut circles located on Yartor Down, at the junction of the Dartmeet to Ollsbrim and the Sherwell / Ponsworthy roads. The inner ring of this hut survives as several edge set orthostats. The interior is level but there is no definable entrance. It is built into a slight slope adjacent to a modern road, west of Ollsbrim Cross. Internal diameter (i.e. across inner wall face) 8.0 metres, walls 1.2 metres wide and 1.0 metre high.

(September 1951) This hut circle is in very good condition with walls up to 1.2 metres high and completely turf-covered.

(21/05/1980) Lying within the reave system (SX 67 SE 94) at 360m OD is a Type 2 (SX 56 NE 71) hut circle in poor condition. (See ground photograph.) The diameter of the level interior measures 6.8m, with wallin 1.6m thick and 0.8m high. The entrance lies to the south east.
Surveyed at 1:2500 on MSD.

An interesting group of prehistoric dwellings close to the road from Dartmeet to Ollsbrim, several of which are scheduled. Hut circle 6 measures approximately 7.1 meters in diameter and lies very close to the road. Other details: Map 15, 2.
