Full description

Child, P. C., 2002, Farm buildings at West Irishborough (Correspondence). SDV322741.

Building B. 19th century linhay, a two storey, open fronted cattle shed. Unusually the gable end is also open at the first floor. It also has unusual ovate brick and stone pillars which together with the style of the roof structure appear to indicate a later 19th century date for the building. The loft floor has now been entirely removed and the western bay has been infilled. It is possible that this particular linhay was used for cart and implement storage rather than as a cattle shed as it does not face an enclosed yard. This might be connected to quarrying activity here. Map object based on this source.
