Full description
Newman, P., 1999, Eylesbarrow (Ailsborough) Tin Mine, 139-141 (Article in Serial). SDV231130.
The water supply to the wheel of the smelting house was from the same leat that supplied stamping mill 4 to the northeast + went on to stamping mill 6 to the south. The courses of the leats + the leat embankment are shown on the 1:500 survey.

Water supplies diverted from the River Plym and its tributaries as well as seasonal sources had long been used in the upper Plym valley at streamworks, openworks and tin mills prior to the 19th century episode of tin mining. The leat from the long narrow reservoir to the south-west of the main buildings at Eylesbarrow Tin Mine served Engine Wheel 1 as well as Stamping Mills 1-6 to the south-west. The line of the leat and several of its embankment are shown on the plan of the mine. Map object partly based on this source.
