A tannery occupied this site from the 16th century. The Smyth family owned the tannery from the late 18th century until it was sold in 1880. At the time of the sale it consisted of a dwelling house, outbuildings, tan pits, drying lofts and warehouses. The present stone and brick buildings were built by the Pearce brothers in the late 19th century and their business continued into the mid 20th century. The Victorian building are now used for light industry.
