A Maltese Cross made from stone quarried at Merrivale was erected here in 1897 to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. There is also a stone nearby commemorating Queen Elizabth II's Jubilee

Full description

This is the Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee Cross, unveiled in 1897. It is a form of Maltese Cross quarried at Merrivale.
There is an inscription on the shaft along with a crown:
"VR - 1837 - 1897"
The three step pedestal is also inscribed:
"In commemoration of the - 60 years of - Queen Victoria’s Reign - JCX - Erected by public subscription".
Stands on the green at SX 656 726.
A nearby stone commemorates the “Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II”. Noted in 2014 when a photograph was also taken (08/04/2014).
