Curvilinear banks and defining a field boundary and a roughly oval enclosure up to circa 130m across are visible on aerial photographs of 1946 and images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, as earthworks on the summit and north facing slopes of a knoll between Waddon and Brimley Corner, Chudleigh.
The visible earthworks correspond with boundaries enclosing several plots depicted on the Tithe Map for Chudleigh. The plots include fields, a barn and garden and a limekiln and associated quarry. It is probable the fields and barn denote a degree of settlement associated with the industrial activity.
The enclosures are not depicted don the Ordnance Survey First Edition Ordnance Survey map and were therefore cleared between circa 1840 and 1880. The enclosures are not depicted don the Ordnance Survey First Edition Ordnance Survey map and were therefore cleared between circa 1840 and 1880. The form of the visible earthworks is indicative of deliberate levelling and spreading.
