Summary

An archaeological evaluation of a vacant plot at numbers 12 - 16 Ford Street to the west of the 'Union Inn', revealed a small pit dated to the late 17th and mid-18th century. Finds from the pit included sherds of pottery and a clay pipe stem.

An evaluation by Exeter Archaeology in 1999 of a vacant plot at numbers 12 - 16 Ford Street to the west of the 'Union Inn', Moretonhampstead revealed a small pit dated by finds to the late 17th century and mid 18th century. The finds included sherds of south Somerset and north Devon ware and a clay pipe stem. The foundations of a wall of irregular granite blocks on an east - west alignment were also exposed. A modern concrete floor abutted the wall to the north.
