(19/03/1953) Hut circle; one of those scattered on Shapley Common.


Newman, P., 2002, Headland Warren and the Birch Tor and Vitifer Mines (Report - Survey). SDV363213.

(Visited 01/08/2001) Centred SX 6940 8222: A cluster of seven hut circles adjoining the walls of a sub-ovoid enclosure immediately east of Cullacombe Head. The huts (see related records), are of two main constructional types, massively built and crude hollows. All have been excavated and display sunken interiors with diameters of between 2.2 metres and 6 metres. None of the huts possess a well-defined entrance.
SX 6944 8221 Measures 3.9 metres in diameter, with walls 2.3 metres wide, 0.7 metres high.
SX 6941 8220 Measures 2.1 metres in diameter, with walls 0.6 wide, 0.7 metres high.
SX 6940 8220 Measures 3.5 metres in diameter, with walls 1.0 wide, 0.7 metres high. Possible entrance to the north.
SX 6940 8221 Measures 2.3 metres in diameter, with walls 0.7 wide, 0.5 metres high.
SX 6939 8221 Measures 2.2 metres in diameter, with walls 1.0 wide, 0.6 metres high.
The associated enclosure covers an area of some 0.2 hectares and is subdivided in two roughly equal, semi-circular plots.
These features previously formed part of SX 68 SE 31.
